For a long time I've felt that, as e-books gain in popularity and consequently fewer of us spend time in bookstores, we need a better way to test new authors. Some of them offer free samples online, which is fine. Here, a publisher has gathered together several (is it 15? can't remember) authors from its stable and gives you a chapter or two from their books. You get a feel for how each author writes, something of the characters, and - in an important connection for e-book-lovers, lists of the books that the authors have written.I don't think this should be a paid item, however -- seems like it's a good marketing option for a well-off publisher to use to push for sales. I thought I was getting a set of short stories - so buyer beware, you're just getting segments of longer books.

This book delivers exactly what it promises. The Atria takes the works of authors from around the world and gives just of a sample of each. Some samples are just one chapter and some a little longer, but all of them leave the reader hanging.
Choosing a book by the title and a short description of the story line can sometimes leave me disappointed. Although the plot may be good, the writing is flowery or overly descriptive which is just not what I enjoy. With a sampler like this, I was also able to determine whether I like the style in which the author writes.
I think the one that piqued my interest the most was the sample from Shunning Sarah by Julie Kramer. Her main character, Riley Spartz is a female a television investigative journalist in Minneapolis. I not only was interested in the topics, but was able to decide whether or not I would like her writing style.
I really didn't like this collection of books. I considered the price to be a rip off and I don't know what I paid for it, but is it was 10 cents, I paid too much. Garbage!
I don't like to get reading along only find out that this is just a new spin on an advertising decoy to sell more books.
Each story is a vacation, a small, relaxing escape, while we take a rest from our day. The stories are well written and compelling.

This free book provides a good selection of books from different authors around the world to preview (first chapter). If you like the style of writing and/or are interested in the mystery, you can buy the book. I have read several of the books included after reading the previews (some I had already read). It also introduced me to authors I was not familiar with.
